Quite literally, I am told on an almost daily basis that I am "overthinking it." That may be a theme of my life - I spend so much time mulling over the events of life, the context of my (and our) existence, the things people say, messages... meanings... social and dominant discourse of what is happening in our daily lives. I see a sign in the local square that has a Winter Wonderland lyric on it, saying, "We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way" and I immediately start to wander in my thoughts...
This feels discriminatory in some way. What is "the Eskimo way?" And what would someone who identifies as an Eskimo think when they saw that? I feel like it's rude and inappropriate - insensitive towards those of Eskimo descent.
This is just a snippet - I follow this train of thought for some time. Now, typically, I will turn to one of the people I am with (most often my wife) and say, "Can you believe that? How ridiculous!" Which is usually responded to with an eye roll. (NOTE: She is NOT insensitive or unapologetic toward the plights of marginalized populations or discrimination, she is simply frequently tired of my shit.)
It got me thinking (obvi) - I know I am not the only one who does this. We all overthink things! While my previous blogging efforts (#sextime) was moderately successful, I felt like re-branding to this "overthinking" it idea could incorporate all of the areas of my passions. Thanks for hanging in there as I transition to this new format and fun new posts.
COMING SOON! - Posts responding in intellectual and prepared ways to the thoughts that occur when reading the comments online... (side eye). Posts discussing feminism and our rights as human beings. Responses to current events and struggles. And of course, #SexTime is still here and will also be posted about.
